About NIBC

Concept

The concept of an investment banking competition was first explored in 2007 when Macquarie Group challenged students from the University of British Columbia Finance Club to analyze real-world investment banking transactions at its Vancouver office. Since then, the UBC Finance Club has continued to grow the competition in sophistication and scale every year. With a committed Board of Advisors that includes senior investment banking professionals, NIBC 2012 represents the most sophisticated investment banking competition and conference catered to students in North America and one of the best opportunities to learn about all aspects of investment banking.

A Competition and Conference

NIBC consists of a Competition and Conference that run parallel to each other.  Building on the success of the Competition last year, the NIBC Organizing Committee has worked with a large number of investment banking professionals to create a case competition adjudicated by senior managing directors. The top two undergraduate and top two MBA competing teams will have the invaluable opportunity to present before the final judging panel of industry professionals at the Gala Dinner.

Throughout the full two-day Conference on January 11th-12th, Conference delegates are treated to a unique series of activities and workshops that aim to represent the investment banking industry in the most authentic and comprehensive fashion. This year there are fifteen capital market-focused workshops and panels developed and guided by Canada’s leading specialists in their field, in addition to a Trading Simulation and numerous networking events such as the inaugural Career Fair, the Wine and Cheese and evening social events. In just two days, delegates will obtain an in depth industry overview, knowledge of key technical concepts, and an inside look into the life of an investment banker.
